West Side Story: 12th August, 2022

Doors 19.00, performance 19.30

Unforgettable. That applies to Steven Spielberg’s brilliant new production of West Side Story (12A 2021), just as much as to the original 1961 film. How can you resist watching a film with a host of award wins, including being nominated for seven Oscars?  Come and hear the timeless music that has haunted us all for sixty years. The Spielberg film gives new life to the ageless Romeo and Juliet story by bringing it into 21st century Manhattan where the rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, fight out their battles. Tony, played by Ansel Elgort, meets Maria, played by Rachel Zegler, at a high school dance. They fall in love – and the tragedy is underway.  If you think you know West Side Story and that there’s no point in seeing it again, find out how wrong you are. Dance your way to the Community Centre, when Tony and Maria will be singing their ageless story.

Running time 2hr 36 mins, plus 15-minute interval.

COVID-19 precautions We’ll continue to space out our seating, hand sanitiser will be available on entry and we will still serve refreshments from the back of the hall to avoid crowding in the lobby.
