The Penguin Lessons

Our August Film is The Penguin Lessons (12, 2024), a charming comedy drama inspired by the true story of a disillusioned English teacher at a school in Argentina during the 1976 coup. Tom (a stellar performance by Steve Coogan) has his life turned upside down after rescuing a penguin from an oil-slicked beach. The bird’s presence starts to have a positive effect on Tom and on the school as a whole.

The future of Lenham Film Club

We’re extremely sad to have to confirm to you that Lenham Film Club will cease to operate at the end of the current season. Our September 2026 performance will be our final film.

The club has continued over the years as some team members have left and others have joined. However, our team now faces significant changes; our Chair and Secretary, are leaving the village and several others on our team are no longer in a position to contribute as they once did. We’re very grateful for the support of the new team members who have joined us recently, however, there are simply not enough people on the team to carry out the many tasks that are necessary to keep the club running every month. We’ve tried to resolve this problem for some time. Despite requests for more volunteers and despite exploring a number of avenues to see if others would take on running the club, we’ve not been able to get the required assistance.

The club began in February 2019 and even though we had to take an enforced break due to Covid, we’ve put on 73 performances to date! We’re very grateful to everyone who has come along and supported the club over the last 7 years.

Thank you!
